Why do hold-ups slip down or turn upside down?

by Manuel Wedderien 09 Feb 2024 0 Comments

Hold-ups are a great addition to any outfit and give your look that extra bit of elegance and sexiness. Unfortunately, it can sometimes happen that the stockings turn inside out at the top or even slip down. You can find out why this happens and how you can avoid it in this blog article.

Basics about hold-ups

Before we deal with the problem of rolling and slipping, let's first get an overview of the basic properties of hold-ups. In contrast to conventional tights, hold-up stockings do not have a trouser part, but end directly below the knee or in the middle of the thigh. To prevent slipping, these stockings are equipped with an adhesive band made of either silicone or another non-slip material.

Why do hold-ups slip?

There are various reasons why hold-ups can slip. One of the most common reasons is that the adhesive tape is not sticking well enough or that it is damaged. If the adhesive tape is not sticky enough, the stocking may slip down. Damage to the adhesive tape can cause it to lose its non-slip properties and the stocking can also slip.

Another factor that can contribute to hold-up stockings slipping is thigh circumference. If the circumference of the stockings is too small, the adhesive band will be stretched significantly and therefore lose its grip. This can cause the stockings to slip or bunch up unsightly at the top.

How do I prevent hold-up stockings from slipping?

To prevent hold-ups from slipping, you should first make sure you have chosen the right size. As already mentioned, the thigh circumference is an important factor here. If you are unsure which size you need, it is best to measure your thighs and consult the manufacturer's size chart.

You should also make sure that the adhesive tape on the stocking is clean and dry. Dirt, oil or moisture can affect the non-slip properties of the adhesive tape. If the adhesive tape is dirty, you should clean it carefully with a damp cloth and then let it dry.

Also make sure that you do not put on the hold-up stockings immediately after applying cream to your legs. The oil contained in the cream can also cause the adhesive tape to lose its non-slip properties.

Why do hold-up stockings turn inside out?

Rolling up the top edge of hold-ups can be another problem, especially if you move around a lot or are on your feet for long periods of time. But don't worry, there are ways to prevent this!

The stockings rolling problem usually occurs when the wearer's thigh circumference does not match the size of the stockings. If the stockings are too tight, pressure on the top edge can cause them to bunch up. On the other hand, if they are too loose, the edge may slip down and the stockings may lose their position.

How do I avoid turning hold-up stockings inside out?

One way to prevent wrapping is to choose the right size. Measure your thigh circumference at the widest point and then choose the size that suits you best. Another way to prevent sagging is to choose the right type of hold-ups. Some models have a wider, reinforced top edge that is less likely to roll over. Others have silicone strips on the inside of the edge to ensure it stays in place.

There are also some tricks you can use to prevent your stockings from turning inside out. A common trick is to apply body powder or lotion to the thigh to reduce friction and help the stockings stay in place. Another trick is to wear underwear to help the stockings stay in place. Suspenders or a garter belt can also help keep stockings in place and prevent them from bunching up.

There are several ways to prevent hold-ups from slipping and turning inside out. Choosing the right size and type of stockings, as well as using tricks like body powder or wearing underwear, can help your hold-ups stay in place all day long.
